March 26th 2022
Team Hongirana’s next project was at Malamanchanahalli Government school in Shidlaghatta taluk. In collaboration with Graamantara trust, a rural development initiative, the team filled the walls of the school with attractive art work. Amid several of the art work there was a beautiful Warli drawing that formed the stage backdrop. The highlight of this project was the rangoli designs drawn on the compound walls. While there are several stories related to the origin of rangoli in ancient India, these designs are commonly found at the entrances of several South Indian houses even today. Rangoli is drawn using coarsely ground rice flour and drawing these designs requires skill that comes with practice. On festivals like Sankranthi and Diwali, colors are added to the design to make them look resplendent.
Paintings of the birds Red-wattled lapwing, Drongo and Indian robin found in Malamnachanahalli area on the exterior classroom walls to create awareness amongst the students about their surrounding environment.
During the course of the project the team interacted with the students who also took part in the activities. Finally this art project was all in a day’s work for the team.
